We're so pleased you found us!

Here you'll find information about Comfort Games and why we founded this initiative.

Founded by two autistic board gamers, Daniel and Rachel, Comfort Games CLG is both a trading enterprise and a movement for social change.

We are registered with the CRO as a Company Limited by Guarantee and trade on a not for private profit basis.

All profits from boardgames sales and workshops are reinvested to improve and expand what we do, and to ensure that our community Boardgames Cafe events are free to all.

Our Goals

Why?

Below are a few of the statistics which inspired us to establish Comfort Games and join the movement to change what is the harsh reality of being autistic in Irish society.

(AsIAm Same Chance Report 2024 & 2025)

We now understand that there are many, many Level 1 autistic adults without intellectual disability who, like us, experience standard social settings as exhausting, overwhelming, deeply unpleasant, or intolerable.

Predominantly, the only spaces created to be autistic friendly are either medical or charity models, needing referral, and focusing predominantly on children and/or those with the highest support needs.

Everyone deserves to feel belonging and valued in their own community.

Why Boardgames?

Board games have been around for thousands of years and have endured as an enjoyable, entertaining and cognitively stimulating past time through numerous social revolutions and societal changes....our impulse to play is inherent.

Modern board games now offer us a wide range from quick and light hearted to deeply strategic games, ensuring that there is truly a board game for everyone.

With both collaborative and competitive play, agreed rules, clear objectives and a structured social environment, all neurotypes can come together and find community.

At Comfort Games we highlight games that challenge the norm and invite players to step into new experiences.

And most importantly, they're fun!

Autism + Environment = Outcome

Special interests and activities such as board games, which engender flow state, are richly enjoyable and rewarding but can be difficult to share without communal social spaces that are designed with respect for sensory sensitivities and divergent experiences of the built environment.

We understand that for many of the neurodivergent community, standard social settings present a significant barrier to engaging in social activities.

We provide tabletop adaptable lighting, weighted lap cushions, card holders and for the visually impaired, accessibility kits for a range of our favourite games.

We'd love you to add your voice and take our anonymous survey on social experiences and the built environment.

The responses we get instruct us on how to improve what we do; the more responses we get, the better we can do.
